We really hit the ground sprinting on this project! Since we followed a four-week team, readers were already in place for us to continue their lessons.
Cris Carpenter is amazing; we’ve never had such an organized missionary. She not only had reader information sheets, but they were in the order we will see those readers.
We had 14 readers the first day. I don’t know how many we read with today because we were too exhausted after the big party to count up.
Kelsey did a fantastic job with her Kentucky Derby party! She had a hat-decorating contest, had people make up horse names, and we sang “My Old Kentucky Home” after watching it in the big screen. People had drawn names of the horses in this year’s Derby. We watched a video of the race and gave prizes.
She ended the party with appropriate refreshments–cucumber sandwiches, Derby pie, and sweet tea. We had 53 present, and everyone had a ball. It was fun to talk to the readers that came and also to Cris’ parents, who were on the team that preceded us and are staying another week.
Overall, a great start. And we are looking forward to a day off tomorrow. Getting to know new readers and throwing a party in two days is exhausting, but the good kind of exhaustion. The Lord continues to bless and guide us.
