This blog is in praise of the Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme, a true delicacy. Once or twice a year, I rationalize my desire to indulge—lettuce is a vegetable, cheese and sour cream are dairy, tortillas have fiber, and I need the protein provided by the ground beef. Everyone needs protein, right?
But the calories are so worth it! The Crunchwrap is incredibly easy to eat while driving. Unlike most Taco Bell items, there is no dripping or dropping of slices of lettuce, chopped tomatoes, or shredded cheese. There is no need for extra sauce. No, all this lusciousness is nestled inside a tortilla that has been folded all toward the middle and then grilled, so none of the internal goodness seeps outside the crispy outer shell. It is neither greasy nor gooey. All the flavors meld perfectly to provide a filling and nutritious lunch.
In regard to calories, by the way, even though the Crunchwrap Supreme is delicious, it does not have as many calories as any of the taco salads on the Taco Bell menu. So much for people who think choosing a salad provides fewer calories. Of course most of us wouldn’t try to eat a salad while driving, anyway. The Crunchwrap fits conveniently in the hand.
A warning: sometimes the Taco Bell posted menu does not even show a Crunchwrap Supreme as an option. Do not be deterred. If you request it, it will come.
So if you decide to try this delightful item, and you want a bit of sweetness to finish your meal, go for the cinnamon twists. Finn says they’re “too messy,” but who cares if you have some crumbs on your shirt when you’re finished? At least they brush off.
Clearly today was my day for a Crunchwrap Supreme, thus my euphoric description. Now that you know some of my caloric weaknesses (no chocolate in this story!), I’ll add my drink choice to go with it—Diet Mountain Dew.
Now that’s a terrific meal!
