Though Steve and I have gone on mission trips with other groups, our favorite is Let’s Start Talking, based in Bedford, Texas. I’ve been to Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Loei, Phuket, and Bangkok,Thailand; Suva, Fiji; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and Natal, Brazil. Most of the trips were six weeks and involved giving free English lessons based on a workbook on the gospel of Luke. The LST philosophy is “the Word is the teacher; we are the illustrations,” and I love that. We present the gospel and it often touches people’s hearts. If it doesn’t, we’ve still served others by helping with their English, a valuable skill in non-English speaking countries.
LST has been in existence for over 30 years, so there are many churches whose leadership is comprised of people who learned the gospel through LST. The Watcharapon Church of Christ in Bangkok is a great example of LST seeds planted that flourished and spread.
In the summer of 2010, we were at the Wangsa Maju Church of Christ in Kuala Lumpur. This congregation totally gives itself to reaching the students of nearby universities, and follows up beautifully on the contacts made through LST, and many souls come to Christ in this strongly Muslim country. Because it is illegal to teach Christianity to Muslims there, all our contacts were through the Chinese community, which is about 25-30% of the population of Malaysia. Here is a video of a typical day for our team: A Day of Let’s Start Talking.

Boyd-Byers LST Team, Natal, Brazil, 2012
Most recently, our entire family of nine lived in Natal, Brazil, for six weeks, teaching English with Let’s Start Talking. It was exciting to all be working together to spread the gospel.
Our travels have given us a heart for Christians around the world, and Steve and I support the work of The Voice of the Martyrs, Christian Relief Fund, and other global efforts.
