Just about a year ago, I wrote a post called “Kitchen Tables I Have Known.” One of the tables I mentioned was my mother’s kitchen table. She has not lived in that house for three years, but her presence is still deeply felt there. Once again her kitchen table is lovingly surrounded.
This past weekend, a new generation was there to enjoy the beautiful surroundings that she so treasured. Our daughter Kelsey and several college friends met there with their husbands and children to enjoy farm life for a couple of days.
They felt my mother’s spirit as they popped corn, played games, picked pears, made cobbler and pear preserves, cooked a bountiful Southern breakfast, ate barbecue, made ice cream, and roasted wieners and made s’mores at a backyard bonfire. They had time to talk, read, go for walks, and feed pears to the cows.
All in all, it was a lovely time and I’m delighted that this great home is available for such warm and loving groups. The plan is for it to become the Ajalon Acres Bed and Breakfast. Hope it happens soon!

Wow–what a wonderful get-together, and with such good memories of your mom and times spent there. Thanks for sharing. Ajalon Acres Bed and Breakfast sounds very inviting!

Looks like a good place for a writer’s retreat!
